it’s a must read. as i read along, it gives me mixed feelings that i cannot quite describe.
naturally, they talked about seung. we may never know what really went down, but i’m not sure if it’s necessary. they talked things through and came up with the decision and went their own way while still supporting the other - that’s as good as i could hope for.
also, it’s apparent that they have been worrying a lot about their comeback this time round. they have openly expressed it, not only in this interview. and it’s not just because of seung’s departure, but about the time passing and whether their music will still appeal to the public.
tbh, my heart hurts thinking of how the five of them struggled with all those worries, on top of preparing for the comeback and also completing the japanese tour. it must’ve weighed them down a lot, right? what doojoon said especially pierced me: “People around us commented saying that ‘our time has passed’, ‘shouldn’t they go for enlistment?’” i can’t even begin to imagine how they must’ve felt to hear such words ;____;
that said, i’m glad that they seem to be dealing with it the right way. first of all, much as i hate the fact that they’ve been going through such hardship, i find comfort in the knowledge that they are not facing it alone. they have each other, and if anything, the hard time has only brought them even closer. second, not only did they recognize that time passes by, but they accept it as well. like yoseob said, it takes courage, and i am proud that they all have the courage to do so. and with the acceptance, comes the right decision on how they should present their music to the public. instead of trying to - i’m quoting yong here - ‘squeeze between the powerful and cool rookies’, they thought of showing their emotions, which, let’s be honest, is definitely their forte. they know what they’re good at, they make good of their experiences and play to their strength, and show their own music colors.
honestly? best decision ever.
i think this comeback may be like the turning point for them. and i’m not just talking about simply regrouping, but also the direction of their music and their expectation of the responses for their music from the fans and the general public alike, as well as what fans and the public might expect from them. as the members themselves acknowledged, time has passed, and they’re probably no longer the trending idol group they once were that won trophies left and right with every comeback.
what they are now is a group of singers who have matured over the years, who have discovered their own music colors and decided they want to sing songs with emotions that people could relate to. it may not always gain them favors from the general k-pop listeners, it may not bring them trophies and awards. BUT, if there’s anything i can be sure of after listening to their music all these years, it’s that they always ALWAYS deliver, especially in terms of vocals and emotions.
and i don’t know about you guys, but i’ll happily be with them along the way until the day they call it quit :”)
long story short: i love 비스트 so much and for me, they can do no wrong.
